Walls

Walls—
barriers for
ourselves
and the outside world.

Their allegiance
resides with us—
within us.

Time
challenges
by way of neglect,
loss;
cracked pieces
tossed into a
fusion sea.

Graffiti soul
stares
back—
numbed and
tortured by
death.

Gouged,
missing parts,
yet still left
standing.

We kick
away the
broken pieces,
apply patches
until the
wrecking ball
of time
takes the
entire wall down.

Linking life and poetry,
Denise

  1. Life is so crazy right now. First, people hoarded a bunch of TP. Now they’re clearing out grocery shelves with all of this panic buying. I’m no spring break from school right now, but MT schools have been canceled for at least the next two weeks. I’m holding out hope I’ll get to take my vacation to Prague and Dubrovnik mid-June, but time will tell. It’s a mad, mad world right now!

    1. Jeri, It IS a mad world. We’re experiencing the same craziness. My husband’s school was canceled last week, so he’ll be off for at least 4 more weeks. I hope you get to take your vacation then, too. Sounds great.

  2. Loved this Denise and how resonant at a time when borders are closing and barriers going up against the spread of this awful virus. Keep safe! Keep sane! keep writing and reading 😉
